Worshipping Goddess, Becoming Goddess: Understanding Shakti & The Cosmic Powers of Birth, Life, and Death
March 8, 2014
In Sanskrit, Shakti means power. It is the dynamic "female" force that births, animates, and annihilates all existence. All Goddesses and all women carry this inherent Shakti power. In this evening presentation and ritual, Laura Amazzone showed the ritualistic ways in which to tap into these divine energies of Goddess Saraswati--creativity, Goddess Lakshmi--manifestation, and Goddess Kali--transformation. Together, we explored these Goddesses' mythologies, iconography, and energies. We also used guided ritual meditation to experience a taste of the famous Shakta Tantric saying "To worship Goddess, One must become Goddess."

March Against Monsanto, Laguna Beach
October 12, 2013
Mother Tree Sanctuary attended the March Against Monsanto held in Laguna Beach and protested against the use of genetically modified foods (GMOs). Monsanto is the leading producer of genetically engineered seeds and herbicides, and its monopoly has affected thousands of small farmers throughout the world. According to Dr. Vandana Shiva, Monsanto's BT cotton created a cycle of farmer indebtedness in India and led to thousands of farmer suicides in the Indian state of Andrha Pradesh. Monsanto spent $8.1 million opposing the passage of Proposition 37 in California, which would have forced GMO food products to be labeled. Help us bring down this giant!
Mother Tree Sanctuary Town Hall Meeting
September 28, 2013
Mother Tree Sanctuary held a Town Hall Meeting in the Huntington Beach Central Library to discuss the future direction of the organization. Important topics discussed included the classes we will be holding in January 2014, as well as our new office location! Be a part of our exciting movement and STEP UP: share, lead, educate, inspire. We realize that it is only by collectively coming together that we will be able to manifest our vision. If you feel "called" to be a part of our organization, whether as a volunteer, an instructor, a grant-writer, a donor, or a friend, email us at contact@mothertreesanctuary.org
m.a.m.a. earth: The Art of Pure Living in a Toxic World
September 15, 2013
Mother Tree Sanctuary supported sister organization m.a.m.a earth at the Center for Living Peace in Irvine, CA and learned from holistic health counselor and art educator, Erika Elizondo, about optimizing quality of life and health. Special attention was paid to the liver and its role in overall vitality. The Environmental Working Group's 2013 Dirty Dozen fruits and vegetables were discussed (these include apples, celery, cherry tomatoes, and cucumbers, to name a few) and were advised to be bought organically. Erika Elizondo also reminded us of the power of natural, antibacterial "edibles" such as grapefruit seed extract and apple cider vinegar -- staples that should be in every household for cleaning both the body and the home. Why use toxic, chemical-based cleaning agents when nature provides healthier, immune-boosting alternatives?
Vandana Shiva -- Seed Freedom and Systems of Abundance
September 14, 2013
Dr. Vandana Shiva -- quantum physicist, environmental activist, author, and ecofeminist -- spoke at WLCAC in Watts, Los Angeles and reminded all present of the importance of small farmers' rights. Her insight into the farmer's contribution as plant breeders, seed savers, and keepers of oral traditions in food preparation are vital to creating a movement that embodies knowledge of traditional practices. The Mother Tree family was inspired by Dr. Shiva's work and learned more about GMOs, organic foods, biopiracy, and seed saving.
Goddess Spirit Rising
September 7, 2013
The Mother Tree Sanctuary family attended the Malibu Goddess Spirit Rising Conference to celebrate the collective contributions to a world built on community, mutuality, and reverence for Mother Earth. Vicki Noble, Miriam Dexter, Joan Marler provided informative lectures titled "The Biological Basis of Matriarchy," "Sacred Display: Divine and Magical Female Figures of Eurasia," and "Her Sacred Body: The First 30,000 Years." Workshops on frame drums, herbalism, Australian Aboriginal healing circles, and ritual practice brought all of the individuals involved closer to each other and to the Great Mother.
Full Moon Gathering
July 22, 2013
Our community gathered at Newport Beach to celebrate the Full Moon by pouring the water that was collectively blessed during Dr. Emoto's "Honoring Our Waters" Ceremony into the ocean. The singing bowl, sage, and wood-flute lended to a wonderful ambiance that reminded everyone involved of the importance of taking care of Mother Earth, Mother Waters.
